MEET YOUR FARMERS

Hi! We're Mikey and Erin, and together we run Boxcar Acres, a small, organic-equivalent vegetable growing operation in Henry County, KY. We met in 2016 while Mikey was apprenticing with Field Day Family Farm in Louisville, KY and Erin worked for the farm education non-profit located on the same farm. After another apprenticeship at a vegetable farm on Vashon Island, WA in 2017, Mikey decided to return to his hometown and begin his own growing operation. Erin joined him as a full time farmer in 2020.

We spent a lot of time looking for our forever farm! We moved our farm 5 times in 5 years looking for land that was just right for our dream farming operation. In 2021 we were truly blessed with the opportunity to purchase our own space in Henry County, KY. This truly special place has hosted many caretakers before us and it is our goal to foster a relationship between soil, water, biodiversity, and our own hard work to build a beautiful place that grows nutrient dense, delicious food for our customers, friends, and family.

Our farming practices follow the principles of organic farming. We do not use synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or other chemicals on our crops, and we use best practices like crop rotation, manual pest removal, cover crop, minimal tillage, and other regenerative practices to grow food in a way that is best for people and the planet.
