We have two seasonal options: Regular Season - 21 weeks of veggies, starting May 7 through October 8 . Extended Season - 28 weeks of veggies, starting May 7 through the week of Thanksgiving, November 27. A note on our calendar - We take a break the first two weeks of August to give ourselves time to rest and reset the farm for fall and winter plantings. How much does each option cost ? Regular Season - 21 weeks at $25.50/week, for a total of $535.50 for the season if paid up-front (monthly payments also available for slightly more to cover our admin costs). This saves everyone on credit card fees, which really add up. Debit/credit card - This is an option at checkout when you sign up. We ask that you consider covering the fees incurred when using a card to make sure we are getting the full value of your share. SNAP/EBT - This is new for us this year, so please reach out with any questions. In order to use this form of payment, you will select the p roduct in the store titled "One Time Veggie CSA Box For SNAP/EBT." Because of the rules of SNAP payments, it is likely best if you do not pay up front, and instead select "pay per pickup". - WHAT IS CSA | Boxcar Acres
What is COmmunity Supported Agriculture (CSA)? 1. A GRASSROOTS SYSTEM OF FUNDING LOCAL AGRICULTURE Community-supported agriculture is an annual purchase of stock in the farm. In exchange for defraying the initial operation costs, such as seeds and farm supplies, shareholders receive dividends in a portion of the weekly yield of the farm. Consumers get better value and consistency than at the farmers market, because as investors in our business you are our first priority. CSA is a season-long commitment to healthy eating, to local business, and to small farmers. 2. A STAKE IN THE SUCCESS OF THE FARM A CSA subscription offers the potential for a healthier lifestyle with a reduced environmental impact. By eating locally and seasonally, you have access to produce at its freshest that has been grown with sustainable and restorative practices for the soil. And often at a lower cost than organic produce from a grocery store! 3. A LINK BETWEEN PRODUCER AND CONSUMER With farm visits, email newsletters, and weekly pickups, shareholders forge a relationship with farm and farmers that goes beyond economics. Follow what's happening on the farm, try our favorite recipes, and engage with local food in a more meaningful and personal way.

Interested? Here's more info about how it works! Every other week, you will be able to order from our online store using pre-loaded credit. We use GrownBy, an app developed by a cooperative of farmers to function as an online CSA store. This store will have your available credit loaded and you can shop any of our available items using that credit. Items include seasonal vegetables, eggs, beef, poultry, pork, lamb, dairy and more! The store opens on Sat urday afternoon and closes on Monday at midnight. Your order is delivered on We dnesday to Louisville and surrounding areas, or available for pi ckup on Saturday at our farmers market locations. Payment in advance to establish credit on Grownby (as compared to a regular online store) really helps us! An online market is great, but the reason the Full Diet is so beneficial for farmers is because it is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)! It requires a lot from us financially to begin the growing season. Seeds, potting soil, compost, baby chicks that will grow up to lay eggs, animal feed, tools that need repaired or replaced, all on top of our normal bills - it adds up. Historically, farmers took out short term bank loans every spring, or had credit with stores, to cover these costs. This put them at significant financial liability every single year, because oftentimes the only assets of a farm business are its land and equipment. By paying up front instead of order to order, you are saying "I trust you to grow my food this year. Here's some cash for the start up costs." And we in turn feed you all season! Think of it as an investment in us to grow your food. This is true even if you choose to do monthly payments - it helps us to know the cash flow and participation we can expect month to month as well. We deliver to a pick-up hub or your house. Options for deliv ery and hub pickup include: Wednesday Home Delivery between 4-7p (includes a $10 per delivery fee) Wednesday Hubs pickup Prospect - Covered Bridge Farms neighborhood Crescent Hill - Reservoir Park neighborhood Saturday Hubs St. Matthews Farmers Market 8-12p Douglas Loop Farmers Market 10-2p New Albany Farmers Market 8-12p On Farm Pickup on Wednesdays, anytime after 3pm We have two season lengths to choose from: The Extended season runs from May 1 - November 20 . The delivery dates are as follows: May 1, 15, 29; June 12, 26; July 10, 24; August 14, 28; September 11, 25; October 9, 23; November 6, 20, for a total of 15 deliveries. The Regular season runs from June 12 - October 23. The delivery dates are as follows: June 12, 26; July 10, 24; August 14, 28; September 11, 25; October 9, 23 for a total of 10 deliveries. ' Y ou pay for your CSA based on household size. Y ou can always add more credit if you order beyond the initial household size recommendations! Have questions? Here are some FAQ's answered below , but if you have others please email us at boxcaracres@gmail.com ! What kind of vegetables can I expect? One of the most exciting things about participating in a CSA is the opportunity to learn to eat seasonally. The beginning of the season brings a lot of greens - kale, lettuces, spinach , cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and roots like carrots and beets. As we move into summer there are often still those veggies plus tomatoes, squash, beans, peppers, corn, eggplant, and melons! As we move into fall, we often still have summer vegetables long into October, plus a return of all of the greens and roots of spring, winter squash, potatoes, and sweet potatoes. It really is a full tour of the availability of seasonal produce - a farmers market delivered straight to you! Are you organic? We, and all of our partner farmers, grow vegetables and raise livestock in ways that we feel are best for people and the planet. We are not certified organic by the USDA, and while we would consider it in the future, right now we find the cost and paperwork just don't make sense for us. However, we grow using methods that we call organic equivalent - we (and our partners) do not use synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and all of our practices center around regenerative agriculture to improve the health of the soil, provide space for pollinators, and maintain water health on and around the farm. We are very proud of the way we grow our food and the difference it makes in growing nutrient dense foods for ourselves and our customers! I'm going out of town for work/vacation. Can I skip a delivery ? If you know you will be out of town for a delivery, please let us know as soon as possible (at least one week!) so that we can plan accordingly. Options include: Prorating your CSA rate. We are only able to do this once during the season. If you are going to miss more than one delivery, you can: Ordering more on the delivery before you leave or after you return. Again, please let us know as soon as possible so that we know that's what you're planning to do! Giving it to a friend! We've had lots of "guest CSA members" over the years that step in to take over someone's order that is out of town. It's always a treat for them! My kids don't eat that much. Do I actually need to include them? We find that our pricing structure works very well for most families, so we ask that you include any child over 3 when signing up for the CSA. If you are regularly underordering during the season we can make adjustments. What if I don't know how to cook some of the vegetables? We send a newsletter with every order form that includes information about new vegetables offered that week, as well as suggestions about how to cook some of the more unique vegetables. And, if you ever have questions about how to cook something, we're here for you! We are avid home cooks and love to share our love of vegetables! O ther questions? Please don't hesitate to shoot us an email at boxcaracres@gmail.com We look forward to feeding your family! Full Diet Pricing Guide First adult: $130/delivery Second adult: $100/delivery Each child aged 4-17: $25/delivery

- MEET YOUR FARMERS | Boxcar Acres
MEET YOUR FARMERS Hi! We're Mikey and Erin, and together we run Boxcar Acres, a small, organic-equivalent vegetable growing operation in Henry County, KY. We met in 2016 while Mikey was apprenticing with Field Day Family Farm in Louisville, KY and Erin worked for the farm education non-profit located on the same farm. After another apprenticeship at a vegetable farm on Vashon Island, WA in 2017, Mikey decided to return to his hometown and begin his own growing operation. Erin joined him as a full time farmer in 2020. We spent a lot of time looking for our forever farm! We moved our farm 5 times in 5 years looking for land that was just right for our dream farming operation. In 2021 we were truly blessed with the opportunity to purchase our own space in Henry County, KY. This truly special place has hosted many caretakers before us and it is our goal to foster a relationship between soil, water, biodiversity, and our own hard work to build a beautiful place that grows nutrient dense, delicious food for our customers, friends, and family. Our farming practices follow the principles of organic farming. We do not use synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or other chemicals on our crops, and we use best practices like crop rotation, manual pest removal, cover crop, minimal tillage, and other regenerative practices to grow food in a way that is best for people and the planet. Our passion is growing delicious, nutritious food for our community. We truly appreciate the opportunity to be your farmers!
